Y/n was underwater, her entire body enveloped in stillness. The world outside seemed distant. The water pressed gently against her skin, holding her in place. With her eyes closed, the only sound she could hear was the slow, steady rhythm of her heartbeat. It was oddly calming.
She tried to take a deep breath, but the water resisted, pushing back against her chest. A tightness began to form, a subtle pressure building as her body reminded her of its need for air. At first, she ignored it, her mind wandering aimlessly, but soon the urge grew stronger. The burn in her lungs sharpened, urging her to move.
Her body responded sluggishly, held in place by her thoughts. But then, instinct took over. She opened her eyes and quickly pulled her head out of the water, gasping as air flooded her lungs. She coughed, sputtering as water dripped down her face, her breath ragged and desperate.
Blinking, she realized where she was—the bathtub. Warm water rippled gently around her as her heart raced. She had come dangerously close to drowning herself, lost so deep in her own thoughts that they almost dragged her under.
Still catching her breath, she sat up in the tub, hugging her knees. Her body ached, a new, sharp pain radiating through her right side. She guessed it was from falling hard on her right arm the day before. The pain would fade eventually; her tolerance for pain had always been high, so she didn’t give it much thought.
The day today, felt like any other in recent weeks. As she glanced around the bathroom, it was all so familiar—typical, just like every day for the past month. Yet, everything was so different from the life she once knew.
